5 Surefire Ways to Get More Facebook Likes
By: Garin Kilpatrick
The tips about how to get more Facebook likes I shared in my Facebook have netted over 1,000 comments in the past year.
Clearly this is a topic that strikes a chord so I am diving into it deeper for this post.
If you want to build a powerful community with plenty of real engaged fans there are a few core things you should focus on.
Here are five of the most important tips you should to keep in mind for sure fire success in building your fan base and getting plenty of likes.
1. Share Epic Content
Content is the cornerstone to any successful community.
High quality content can serve the double purpose of both getting you new fans and keeping the fans you already have happy and engaged.
Help your community with quality content for free and when you make an offer for a product or service you will actually get results because you will have proven you’re the real deal.
2. Invite Your Friends to Become Your Fans
This tip might seem overly simple but the truth is that it’s often overlooked.
Use your discretion, not all if your friends will be a good fit for your page…but it never hurt to ask.
Send short messages asking your friends to join you in your professional page and give them an idea of what kind of content they should expect.
Taking a few quick minutes to send personalized inbox messages asking people to join your page can yield great results over time.
3. Use Social Plugins like the “Like Box”
The Facebook Like box has gotten me thousands of free fans for various pages I have developed over the past several years.
This plugin works for me and I’m sure it can work for you too.
Installing this plugin into your site is easy: simply copy and paste the code into a the sidebar of your site.
Getting people to visit your website and your Like box is another challenge so here are 101 traffic tips I wrote to help you out if getting website visitors is your focus.
4. Offer Incentives
Using a “Like Gate” is still a powerful way to get new fans.
Offer something awesome to people when they “like” your page and people will become a fan to get it and stay a fan in hopes of getting more awesome stuff in the future.
5. Use Strong Calls To Action
If you don’t ask people to take action and like your page many people simply won’t.
So don’t beat around the bush – come right out and tell people to like your page.
Build links to your Facebook page everywhere and include calls to action for people to join your Facebook page in all of your marketing materials.
Of course the five tips above are just the tip of the iceberg when if comes to building your Facebook fan base.

You can never say Like my page too often so I hope a few folks will like my page so I can lose these stupid numbers http://www.facebook.com/pages/Prime-Way-to-Wealth…
Please come and Like my page I'll od the same if you leave me a link to your page
I've been to a few webinars and classes recently, and I've actually been hearing "sharing" is more important than "liking", particularly in social commerce. Although I have an idea on where you stand, I'm interested in knowing your thoughts on that?
@benpublishing A share will get a piece of content more exposure than if someone liked that content instead of sharing it.
But when you get someone to "Like" your page then they can see content from you many times, and because of this gaining fans is more important than getting shares, but both actions will help you build your community.
I think we often hesitate to ask people to like our page for fear of appearing too spammy. But if we ask correctly, it's not spam and it really works.
@EliseKillianPitterle You're right Elise!
Oh, and here's a link to my FB fan page – come like it and we can talk more social media and local business marketing. http://facebook.com/elisepitterlefanpage
I really underestimated the value of asking my friends to like my page. What I found was that by selecting my closer friends to like the page (even if they weren't necessarily into my product) I discovered that there were people in their network that found my product worthwhile.

I also struggle with the challenge of creating valuable content. For the time being, I have taken a less-is-more approach. As an illustrator, I usually post my work with minimal comments. Any suggestions in this area would be appreciated
Thanks, Garin, for continuing to pump out such valuable information.
