How To Add a Facebook Page Plugin To A WordPress Website

Well Facebook’s is changing the game again, this time by killing off their most successful social plugin.

What change is Facebook making?

They are killing off the like box.

After June 23rd, 2015 the Like Box plugin will stop working.

This is significant because the like box is without a doubt one of the most powerful ways to get more likes for your page.

Although this might seem like a terrible thing at first, it is actually a good thing, as the new Facebook page plugin is actually very powerful.

The new page plugin is like the old Like Box but a big larger and with a built in share button.

This is what the new social plugin builder looks like.

I took a few minutes and created a video showing how you can easily implement one of these plugins into a WordPress site.

Note: This method is for self-hosted WordPress sites only.  If your WordPress site is a free site hosted on WordPress then you will not be able to add a page plugin using this method.

If you want to get your own self-hosted WordPress site I recommend getting hosting from Bluehost.

Do you ever just take a day to drink beer, eat ice-cream, and get laid? Seriously though… You are crazy tough. Good luck at Rocky. What other ultras are on your schedule for the first 1/2 of 2008? How about Jemez 50? If you come down to NM and run, I will bring you a gallon of ice-cream post race.

      Hi Joe,

Glad to hear you value the content! 🙂

What is your Facebook page URL? I can check and see if the issue is present when I check it.

Perhaps your page is set to “private” it might be the case that this plugin only works with “public” pages.

      Cheers,

      Garin

Hi Garin. Love your content – thanks!

Been having a problem with the Facebook plugin though. Can’t get it to work on my Thesis themed WordPress site.

Is it me, or is it Thesis, do you think. Believe me, I’ve been trying and searching for hours to get this to work but to no avail. It might help some of your readers to know the answer to this too!

    All the best,
    Sab 😀

      Hey Sab,

Glad to hear you love the content! 🙂

Try copying both sections of code into the text box widget in your sidebar.

This is how I initially installed the plugin, and it worked, so hopefully it works for you too.

However I know there is a lot of customization to WordPress within the Thesis framework so you may need to contact the Thesis team if this doesn’t do the trick.

      Good luck!

      Garin
