Today Instagram founder Kevin Systrom announced news for Instagram lovers to celebrate – the network now supports 15 second video sharing!
Despite Vine winning the Twitter race Instagram has nothing to complain about.
With more than 130 million members Instagram co-founder Kevin Systrom took to the stage he shared some updated stats about the app. There are:
- 16 billion photos are shared on Instagram
- 1 billion likes every day
- 130 million people use Instagram every month
Instagram was acquired by Facebook in a $1 billion deal last year, and the rapidly growing social network is not just for photos anymore.
The new Instagram video capabilities are called simply “Video On Instagram.”
This lets people create 15-second videos to share on the service.
The new video feature includes editing capabilities as well as 13 new filters, which were specially created for video.
“What we did to photos, we just did to video” Systrom said.
This feature, which is rolling out to all Instagram users on iOS and Android today, will impact a huge number of people, due to Instagram’s current reach.
Indeed, this is a clear move that pits Facebook more firmly against Twitter, which acquired Vine last year.
The battle for brief video dominance has just become, and certainly we can expect some cool innovations in micro-videos to come.

What This Means For Facebook Page Owners
Although Facebook is increasingly becoming a more public network Instagram is a network that is public by default – meaning that people are openly encouraged to like and follow photos from new people.
If you own a Facebook page Instagram offers an awesome opportunity for you to keep your Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, Foursquare and Flickr updated all at once!
Publishing photos, and now videos, through Instagram can give your brand a cutting edge over your competition and enable you to attract new people to your business and content.
To maximize your Facebook results include a link to your Facebook page in the URL spot of your Instagram profile.
